In the mid-nineties, and due to the demand of the LPG market in the Waterway Paraná-Paraguay, HORAMAR started the development of LPG river transportation.
The result was the initiative to build three vessels of the Fully Press type with all the features required to operate in the Waterway even in very low river water level seasons.

Based on its own engineering design, HORAMAR assigned the building of the barges to Tandanor Shipyard in Buenos Aires, under the supervision of RINA Classification Society.

These three barges, unique in their class, and which operate in the Waterway since 1997, have a combined tank capacity of 4.500 m3, and were built following the highest standards of quality and technology.

The barges operate regularly and have vetting approvals from REPSOL-YPF, PETROPAR, SHELL and PETROBRAS.

It is well known that LPG water transportation presents strong advantages, and we could we could mention the following:

ECONOMICAL

Is widely known that the cost of moving a ton of cargo by water is by far cheaper than doing it by land.
In a world were fuel is costlier every day, transportation of LPG by water is more efficient and contributes to lower the final price of this much needed commodity.

SAFETY

Passing through towns and cities with a truck loaded with 25 tons of LPG, with roads not always well maintained, is a risk that does not exist in waterway transportation.

These barges were specially designed to operate in the rivers of the region, covering all possible contingencies, from their double hull protecting the tank area to the redundant alarm system and double safety valves in each tank, all conceive to minimize risk.

ENVIRONMENTAL

The present legislation and regulations on environmental care that must be met in order to operate in the Waterway, and the controls in place by the Administrations of the countries involved, ensure that all operations are carried out with special considerations on the preservation of the environment.

All studies made on transportation point out that the relationship between the fuel consumed, and the corresponding gases expelled to the atmosphere, for the transportation of each ton of cargo by land and by water favors the latter, being far less contaminating.

All these considerations on the advantages of this type of transport reinforce the decision made by the Company to offer every day better and more efficient services, and to be permanently aware of the needs of its clients.
